Picture Books

I read the section about Picture books, in the other class I'm taking we are discussing the importance of picture books for teaching early literature. I think is very interesting because it teaches the students to be able to comprehend the material they are reading about using the pictures to help.

I thought it was interesting in the book when it talks about the cover of the book. It says "the cover of a book serves as a window into the content of the book. It gives us clues as to mood and subject matter of the book and is used to a great extent by children and adults when looking for a book to read." I thought this was interesting because I never really thought of the book cover that much, but once I read this, I realized how true it really is. I also found interesting reading the chart of crafting techniques such as leads, figurative language, making a long story short, repetition of a sentence or phrase, and understatement. This elements are important for stories to have, especially short stories. The section about picking short stories is also important because as a teacher making sure that you are picking the proper story book is important and this section is very helpful to be able to look over and study.

This section was very interesting and I liked being able to read it and relate it to another class I am taking. I never knew there was so much detail into picture books, but I certainly learned a lot about it now.
